Spine Society Early Career Scholarships in Australia

The Spine Society of Australia (SSA) is pleased to announce the availability of scholarships for early career participants attending the Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM). The SSA is dedicated to fostering accessibility for emerging professionals in the field, and for this purpose, a total of $10,000 is allocated for scholarships. These scholarships are made possible through the support of SSA membership fees and profits from previous conferences.

Funding can be applied for registration for the SSA 2024 conference, as well as reimbursement for travel and accommodation. Please note that a funding maximum of $1,500 per individual applies. Accommodation and travel arrangements must be organized by the individual and submitted to the Conference Secretariat for reimbursement.

Eligibility

Eligibility: To qualify for the SSA 2024 conference scholarship, candidates must meet one of the following criteria:

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or postgraduate degree program
  • Currently enrolled in a master’s by research or a PhD
  • Awarded a PhD within the previous five years with significant career interruption for specified reasons
  • Awarded a PhD within the previous eight years and not employed in a senior role at a medical or research institution or university

Applicants must provide documentation of applying for alternative funding and confirmation of the unavailability of institutional funding. Additionally, a Recommendation Form from their employer, supervisor, or academic instructor is required.

Prioritization: Priority is given to applicants who have submitted an abstract for consideration for an oral or poster presentation in the SSA 2024 Program. Preference is also given to those whose participation will enhance their knowledge, skills, and service delivery, and who have a well-defined plan for disseminating and implementing acquired knowledge.

    • Completed and signed Application Form
    • Statement from employer or student body confirming other sources of funding have been applied for and no institutional funding is available
    • Recommendation Form completed by an employer, supervisor or academic instructor

Applications will be reviewed by the SSA Executive, and successful applicants will be notified shortly after the submission deadline. The decision of the review panel is final.
